Bimal Gurung is like a ‘Toothless Tiger’ - Hill Trinamool

Kalimpong: Hill leaders of Trinamul Congress today termed GJM Chief Bimal Gurung is like a ‘toothless tiger’ who made promises from the very beginning and fulfilled none.  Attacking the Morcha during its debut public meetingh ere at Trikone Park, TMC leaders Praveen Rahapal and Nanita Gautam (former GJM mem- bers) accused Gurung of un-leashing a reign of terror and rampant corruption ever since assuming power in the hills. Rahapal claimed of having evidence of GJM youth leaders extorting money from minority sections in the name of party funds. He said the Bimal Gurung gave GTA election tickets to family members including his wife and son-in-law who were later given profitable departments. ‘Corruption has reached its peak ever since the GTA came into existence. 

Morcha’s policy of bandh is troubling the masses as residents were compelled to sell everything to collect rations during shutdowns. Is he demanding Gorkhaland or Gundaland?, thundered Rahapal, considered a former close aide of Gurung. He also criticized the Morcha leadership for misusing resources like timber stopped by GLP cadres for personal use and requested forest officials to look into the matter. Former Nari Morcha leader Nanita Gautam said only Trinamul Congress can establish peace and democratic environment and bring development in the hills.Other hill TMC members like KN Subba, Chewang Bhutia, Tshering Sherpa and others also addressed the meeting presided over by Pema Moktan.
