SIKKIM : Gangtok observes 9th MGNREGA Diwas

Gangtok : The Ministry of Rural Development on Sunday celebrated 9thMGNREGA Diwas where Sikkim Mahatma Gandhi NREGA programme was presented with two national awards for excellence for the fourth time in a row. Lamten Tingmo-Gram Panchayat, Wok Block of South District and the RM&DD were conferred the national award by union minister Jairam Ramesh during a function held at the Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The award recipients were Panchayat president Mingma Sangay Sherpa and RM&DD joint secretary Sarika Pradhan. 

The minister also made public the national report on convergence initiatives in which the Dhara Vikas initiative of Sikkim to revive Himalayan springs are also included. This is the seventh national award for Sikkim under MGNREGA in the last four years. The function was attended by a large contingent from Sikkim including officials, gram panchayat officials and job-card holders. The team also thanked chief minister Pawan Chamling and other dignitaries for their visionary leadership and guidance.
