Wildfire creates panic in Naya Bazaar in Jorethang,Sikkim

JORETHANG : Panic spread among the people of Naya Bazaar area in Jorethang when a huge wildfire came tantalisingly close to human establishment of the area last night. It is being alleged the wildfire was started by a few unknown miscreants, who are yet to be apprehended. Naya Bazzar area is surrounded by jungle and any spark could lead to a massive wildfire, given the nature of the forest floor during this part of the year. Fire department had to be called in to control the fire. Personnel from police and forest department also lend their helping hand to douse the fire. Due to the quick response of the administrative forces the fire could not spread further. If not for them the results would have been devastating, the locals said. No human injuries have been reported. The police are investigating the matter and are on a lookout for the miscreants.
