Living LEGEND of SIKKIM, Arjuna Awardee Gorkha Boxer Shri Jas Lal Pradhan
For the sports lovers of this tiny Himalayan State year 1982 was a memorable year, as in this year one of the Sikkim's gallant son Boxer Shri Jas Lal Pradhan, did pride to all of us by bagging the Gold medal in boxing in 9th Asian Games held at Seoul, South Korea. He was born on 24th April,1957 in middle class family to Mr. & Mrs. Man Bahadur Pradhan at Khamdong, Singtam, East Sikkim. After attending schooling in his native village, he went to Roorkee, Uttarkhand & he developed a keen interest in boxing at the age of 15. Then he joined the #Indian #Army as a Soldier but he pursued boxing even in the service.
The biggest events he participated in 1982 was Asian Games, New Delhi where he bagged a bronze medal and the year 1984 he participated in Los Angeles Olympics where he again won bronze medal. He also won a bronze medal at the #Commonwealth Games in Brisbane in 1981. The Government of India honored him with the Arjuna Award in 1983. Indian #Amateur Boxing #Federation declared him Best Boxer of the Country for two years - 1981 & 1983. The Government of Sikkim also awarded Khel Samman, a #civilian award in May,2012.
At present he is serving as State Boxing Coach of Sikkim & the differences he has made in this field in Sikkim can be most visible in the interest youngsters are showing in this discipline and the numerous medals they have been winning in different boxing championship in the country. He is a retired Army Officer and he acquired the Army Graduation and Sports Diploma.

- Participated in XI Asian Boxing championship at Japan (Okinawa) in 1993 and USSR international boxing.

- Gold medal in Junior National Boxing championship held at Hyderabad in 1975.
- Gold medal in Senior National Boxing Championship held at Tamil Nadu in 1976.
- Gold medal in Senior National Boxing Championship held at Jamshedpur in 1981.
- Gold medal in Senior National Boxing Championship held at Delhi, Bombay.
- Won double gold medals in Senior National Boxing Championship in 1981-83 and was even declared the
Best Boxer of the country.
- In 1983, he was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award.
