Prince Charles and his Wife Camilla Indian Tour Pictures

Prince Charles received one of his more unusual welcomes as he toured one of the world's biggest vaccine producers. The prince was greeted by a group of laboratory workers dressed from head to foot in pink overalls and protective headgear offering a 'namaste' - a traditional greeting. Charles looked surprised as he spotted them through a window but then cheerfully returned the welcome. The prince was visiting the Serum Institute of India in Pune. It is the world's largest producer of measles vaccines as well as diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough. He watched as lab workers cultivated cells infected with measles and hepatitis in sterile conditions. Serum provides measles vaccine for two out of every three children in the world. It is committed to driving down the cost of such vital inoculations so that they 'cost less than a cup of tea,' said Adar Poonawalla, executive director of operations and the son of the company's founder, Dr Cyrus Poolawalla.
