Pawan Chamling led New SDF Government to be sworn on Today

Gangtok : In his capacity as the president of the Sikkim Democratic Front, Pawan Chamling submitted a resolution passed by the 20 newly elected legislators of his party at the ninth Sikkim Legislative Assembly to Governor Shriniwas Patil at the Raj Bhavan. The resolution has unanimously elected Chamling as the leader of the House, who has also tabled his claim to form the next government. Exercising the powers vested on governors under Article 164 of the Constitution, Patil requested the SDF chief to expedite the formation of his council of ministers for aiding and advising the governor in the exercise of his official functions. The swearing-in-ceremony of the new council of ministers is scheduled at 10.15am Wednesday, or May 21, at the Ashirvad Hall of the Raj Bhavan. Earlier in the day, the governor dissolved the eighth Sikkim Legislative Assembly under the provision of Article 174(2)(b) of the Constitution vide Order No.SGS/2014/ 416, dated 20.05.2014.
