DEEP MILAN PRADHAN
MIRIK
: The CPM lost the Lok Sabha Election this year and has accepted its defeat, but has said the BJP candidate from Darjeeling SS Ahluwalia should fulfil the promises given to the people. CPM’s Mirik unit convener Kismat Tamang and DYFI leader Sujok Rai interacting with the media persons here said as per the promises given by BJP during the build up to the elections this year, the party should table the demand for the separate state of Gorkhaland on the first session of Parliament.
The CPM leaders said the party fared well in the election and came in the second position in terms of number of votes garnered and is still a force to reckon with in the hills. “If the separate state demand does not materialise, the BJP government should implement the Sixth Schedule in the hills and also bring Darjeeling under North East Council,” they added.
Since CPM is party belonging to the workers group, it will not work for the upliftment of the workers of various TGs spread across the Darjeeling hills, the two leaders informed.
Hitting of the ruling TMC, the CPM leaders said the TMC would not have got the few votes if they were not supported by the GNLF. The people of the hills have given a fitting response to Mamata Banerjee for not working for them, the leaders added.
