Two tourists from Kolkata killed in Siliguri hotel fire

SILIGURI : New Year celebrations turned tragic for families of two tourists from Kolkata who died at a hotel in Siliguri in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. A fire broke out at the hotel, killing two persons and injuring three others on Tuesday night, the police said. The tourists from Kolkata were on their way to Bhutan. The injured have been shifted to a hospital. Two fire engines were pressed into service to douse the fire, which was believed to have been caused by a short circuit. Fire officer S. Toppo said an FIR was lodged against the owner of the hotel. The hotel had not adhered to fire safety norms, the officer added.
