Force Gurkha to receive a power boost and BSIV engines?
NEW DELHI : Force Gurkha SUV which derives its roots from the legendary Mercedes G-Wagen has created a niche for itself in the Indian off-roading scene. However, the off-roader’s sale is restricted only to BS-III cities. Autocar India reports that Force motors is working on introducing BS-IV variants of Gurkha to make it accessible throughout the country. The BS-IV variant will employ a cleaner version of the existing 2.6-litre diesel engine which produces 82 PS and 230 Nm of torque in its BS-III avatar but will receive an improved 5-speed manual transmission. The publication also reports that Gurkha may also get the more powerful 2.2-litre BS-IV engine from the flagship One SUV. The Mercedes-derived common rail diesel motor is capable of an impressive 141 PS and 321 Nm of torque. If introduced, the new top-end Gurkha will have a clear power and torque advantage over its primary rival, Mahindra Thar.
The SUV is currently available in three variants – 2WD Soft top, 4WD Soft top and 4WD hardtop. We expect the new top-end Gurkha 2.2-litre variant to be available only in 4WD configuration.
The fully loaded variant gets differential locks on both front and rear axles, power steering, alloy wheels, a stainless steel snorkel and dual tone interiors.
The current prices start from INR 6.30 – 8.55 lakhs (ex-showroom Pune). The more powerful variant would be priced significantly higher.
