Event of Akhil Sikkim Kirat Rai Students Association
Gangtok : The first-year students of Kirat Rai community
who recently joined different colleges were accorded a warm welcome
during a Freshers’ Meet at Janta Bhawan. The event was organised by Akhil Sikkim Kirat Rai Students (ASKR) association. Yog Guru Thuck Chuk Lachungpa graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Dr. S.K Rai was the Guest of Honour. Students from Namchi, Geyzing, ICFAI and Tadong colleges participated
in the programme. The Chief Guest was honoured with “Sangabung”, the
traditional Rai head gear by the students.
The Chief Guest and
Guest of honour released the Souvenir of AKRS, named ‘SAYACHUCK
(KOSELI)’. Two well-known singers, Sushila Rai and Deepraj Rai were
honoured for their contribution to the society. Sushila was among the
top 10 singers of Sargam Sikkim, and 11 years old Deepraj, who bagged
the second place in India’s Got Talent, felicitated in absentia.
Dr. S.K. Rai, president of AKRS, said the programme was aimed at
ensuring preservation of traditions & culture of the community. He
said “it was for the second time that Miss Diwa Rai contest was also
being held. The performances of students today were of world class,
including the Beauty Contest.
We would like to take them to Miss
Universe level. Anyone interested like Deepraj, who secured second place
in colour T.V. Channel’s reality show, ‘India’s got talent’, would be
helped by the AKRS.” He called upon all to join together in making
Sikkim the best State in India, in keeping with C.M.’s vision.
The students presented a very entertaining cultural programme .The
programme included Suptlung Silli, by Nuhang & group Tadung Govt.
College, Nepali dance by Sumnima Rai, Hindi dance by Bimla Rai, Solo
songs by Jayanti Rai, Pujan Rai and Sushila Rai, respectively.
Besides
this, students of Namchi Govt. College, Geyzing Govt. College and ICFAI
College presented Silli and Bhutanese dances respectively.
Freshers’ introduction and Talent Hunt Show was also conducted. Sumitra
Rai of Geyzing College was declared Miss Fresher, while Binay Rai of
Namchi Govt. College was declared Mr. Fresher. Out of 6 finalists,
Jayanti Rai was crowned Miss Rai Diva 2013.
