Labour union demands reopening of tea gardens in Dooars

Jalpaiguri : Tea Garden Majdoor Union, one of the leading labour organisations in the Dooars region, today threatened to start and agitation together with other labour bodies if the government authority fails to take necessary steps to reopen Nidam tea garden and several other closed gardens. The union organised a meeting at Subash More of Mal Bazaar where leader Sachin Chanu Dey, who is also a CPM zonal committee member, asked the government to immediately reopen the closed gardens in the region. Workers of Nidam, Malnadi, Minglass and other tea gardens were present at the meeting. Dey said the state government has failed to bring the garden owners to the tripartite meetings. He accused the labour minister of not taking appropriate steps to reopen the closed gardens and restore thousands of poor workers back to work, but remaining busy in conducting party meetings.
