Mirik : The Gorkha National Liberation Front’s Soureni area convener JB Limbu presided over a crucial meeting that was attended by the village chief, Village Protection Cell personnel and representatives of the Gorkha National Women’s Organisation.
The meeting was also attended by general secretary BK Sharma of the Himalayan Plantation Workers Union, among others.
The speakers spoke of GNLF chief Subhash Ghising’s imminent comeback to the hills. They urged the people to be ready to push the Sixth Schedule bill in Parliament, claiming the proper path to achieve statehood is the Sixth Schedule and not the GTA.
GNLF publicity secretary Subhash Mangar appealed to party supporters to attend a public meeting to be held in Phuguri soon.
Attended by many GNLF supporters, the meeting also decided to hold huge mass meetings across the Darjeeling hills this month in the presence of the party chief..
TMC youth committee formed in Soureni
The Trinamool Congress youth wing in Soureni at the residence
of Suresh Sharma, one of its leading members. The Soureni unit of the
TMC youth was formed during the meeting with Suraj Giri as the president
and Asit Thapa the vice-president. Suresh Sharma was appointed the
secretary, Darchen Tamang assistant secretary and Surya Prakash Lama
treasurer of the 17-member committee. The meeting was attended by hill
TMC leaders such as Santosh Khawas, Vikki Thapa and Pankaj Thapa.
