"Child Rights Mela 2014" kicks off in Kalimpong by District Magistrate

KALIMPONG : The two-day campaign on child rights and
protection, dubbed ‘Child Rights Mela 2014’, started in
Kalimpong. The campaign is being organised by the Darjeeling District
Childs Rights NGO Network, a 23-member NGO association, with an aim to
attract government and the society at large so as to give more impetus
to the issue. The programme was inaugurated by the
chief guest DM Punit Yadav at Mela Ground here in the presence of Rev.
Father Stephen, SDO Radhika Iyer, Municipality president Ganga Gurung
along with government officials, representatives from various NGOs and
local people.
The first day of the campaign was marked
by highlighting issues such as child rights and protection, human
trafficking, violence against women and society development. The
representatives from the 23 NGO under the association conducted skits,
dance and songs to present the issues to the people. The NGOs have also installed 18
different stalls which cover a number of information about child rights
and protection along with other issues. The day also saw students from
different schools in and around the town enthusiastically participating
in the campaign.
