LoC: Infiltration attempt, 2 militants killed & 1 Gorkha Jawan Injured
Poonch : Two militants were killed and an Army jawan was injured as Army troops foiled an infiltration attempt from across the Line of Control at Kalsian in Poonch district of J&K Saturday morning.
This is the second infiltration attempt in the past one week. Security forces had foiled a similar bid by militants in Saujian on May 3.
Defence ministry spokesperson Lt Colonel Manish Mehta said the injured jawan - Magar of the Gorkha regiment - was a part of the group of ambushes deployed near the LoC following inputs by military intelligence about infiltration from Baghialdara nullah.
Magar and his party spotted a group of four militants moving inside the Indian territory along the LoC at 2.30 am Saturday. On being challenged, the militants opened fire, forcing the Army to retaliate. One militant was killed. Magar mistook another armed militant as his colleague and moved towards him, and was almost shot down by the militant. As the militant tried to escape, Magar threw a hand grenade at him, killing him. Sources said bodies of both the militants were found with two AK 47 rifles, while the other two militants escaped and may have fled back to the side of PoK.
Incidents of ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops and infiltration attempts by militants have increased since the peaceful conduction of first three phases of Lok Sabha polling in J&K.
