Gangtok : Sikkim chief minister Pawan Chamling has expressed his condolences on the death of Subhas Ghisingh, the chief of the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) who died yesterday.
His press release read:
“I have been deeply saddened on hearing the passing away of Shri Subhas Ghising, the Founder of Gorkha National Liberation Front on 29th January at New Delhi. My prayers and condolences are with the bereaved family.
Late Shri Subhas Ghising will always be remembered for his yeoman service to the Indian Gorkhas who had been pining for their identity in view of their immense contributions made in maintaining the sovereignty, integrity of the country as well as in defence of the motherland not forgetting the contributions made in the freedom struggle.
The credit of raising the Gorkhaland Statehood and identity issues of the Indian Gorkhas at the National level goes entirely to late Shri Ghising. It was his movement for a separate Statehood for Indian Gorkhas that led to creation of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council. Late Shri Ghising was a Litterary personality and a Novelist. I have lost a good friend whom I held in high esteem.
On his demise the Indian Gorkha community has lost a stalwart, visionary and a senior leader. I pray for eternal peace of his soul and may the Almighty give the family members strength and forbearance at this moment of loss and grief.”
