12 Famous Bollywood blockbusters Films Shot in Dehradun & Mussoorie Outskirts

Dehradun, : Capital Dehradun is one of the most beautiful cities in India also happens to be one of the favourite shooting locations for the  filmmakers. although numerous Bollywood films have been filmed in Dehradun & Mussoorie, but we are going to jot down only those 12 which has established a milestone in Indian Film Industry.

Aap ki Kasam (1974)

 
The film stars Rajesh Khanna, Mumtaz, Sanjeev Kumar,Rehman, Asrani and A.K.Hangal and is directed by  J.Om Prakash. The movie was one of the highest grosser in 1974 and mainly shot in Dehradun and its outskirts.

Karm (1977)

Karm,the Hindi movie produced and directed by  B.R Chopra,is based on Dehradun and Haridwar. The film stars Rajesh Khanna, Vidya Sinha and Shabana Azmi. A good number of scenes in Karm show us the lovely campus of Hampton Court School (CJM). The Mohkampur area of the Doon valley (The railway crossing) also appear quite clearly in the movie.

Ghar ka Chirag (1989)

Ghar ka Chirag was the 4th highest grossing film at the box office in the year of 1989.The film projected Rajesh Khanna, Neelam Kothari and Chunkey Pandey as the leading actors. Wynberg Allen school, one of the oldest institutions in the region, appeared in the film.

Salami (1994)

 
Directed by Shahrukh Sultan and produced by Tess Mirza Salaam has projected various parts of Dehradun. Ayub Khan, Kabir Bedi, Beena Banergee and Goga kapoor are in lead roles.

Rahna Hai Tere Dil Me (2001)

The film, Rahna Hai Tere Dil Me, starring, Madhavan, Diya Mirza and Saif Ali khan, was also shot in Dehradun. FRI Campus has been  the setting of the beginning scenes of the film. The college campus has been projected as an Engineering College where both the male protagonists study. 

 Armaan (2003)

 

Armaan, one of the chart-topping Bollywood movies used Mussoorie and its surroundings for the hospital scenes. This film features the A group actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Preity Zinta, Gracy Singh and Randhir Kapoor. This is the first film where Preity Zinta plays a negative role. This film was also screened at Cannes Film Festival.

Lakshya (2004)

Lakshya, directed by Farhan Akhtar and starred by Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta and Sharad Kapoor is usually termed as a war drama. Hrithik Roshan plays the role of the lieutenant, Karan Shergill who later becomes an acting captain later in the film. This is a beautiful story of the development of a young man from an aimless young man into an army officer. This film Lakshya was shot in Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.

Krishna Cottage (2004)

This Bollywood horror movie which features Sohail Khan, Ishaa Koppikar and Anita Hassanandini,as the leading actors, has mainly been shot in the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.Rati Agnihotri, Vrajesh Hirjee, Divya Palat, Hiten Tejwani, Ali Hassan, Rajendranath Zutshi have also played parts of considerable importance in the movie. 

Bunty Aur Bubbli (2005)

Bunty Aur Bubbly, released in 2005 cast Rani Mukherjee, Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead roles. A few scenes of the movie were shot in Mussoorie and Rishikesh.

The Last lear (2007)


Directed by Rituparno Ghosh The Last Lear starred Amitabh Bachchan,Preity Zinta, Arjun Rampal,Divya Dutta,Shefali Shah and Jisshu Sengupta.Shefali Shah won the  National Award for her role in the movie as the best supporting actress. The shooting of the movie  took place in Kolkata and Mussoorie.

Student of the Year (2012)

Student of the Year, directed by Karan Jauhar, is mostly shot in different places of Dehradun. A group of young actors, Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, debut in this movie. The famous actors like Boman Irani, Kajol, Farah Khan and Vaibhavi Merchant have added to the magnificence of the film as guest actors. The major portion of the movie is shot in FRI Campus, Casiga School and Welhums Boys' School, Dehradun.

Pan Singh Tomar (2012)

Directed by Digmanshu Dhulia,The National Award winning movie, Pan Singh Tomar, was also shot in Dehradun and Roorkee. The movie has earned much applause and critical acclaim by the Indian critics.The movie featured the star actors like Irrfan, Mahi Gill, Vipin Sharma, Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
