Nepali folk dance ‘Deuchi-Voili-Sangini’, song contest held in Jamugurihat
JAMUGURIHAT : The Nepali people of Chamardoloni in south Nagsankar region organised a Nepali folk song and dance competition ‘Deuchi-Voili-Sangini’ at Dakshin Nagsankar High School playground recently.
Organised by the Shreemoyee Sahitya Gosthi, a women’s organisation, more than 30 teams participated in the competition, which was inaugurated by Moti Newar, a teacher of Siporiya High School Karoiani.
In the ‘Deuchi folk dance’ competition Sholmari, Tengabari team got the first prize while Navaranta got the second and Samiron Sankritik Tolli got the third prize. The best singers prizes went to Samiron Sanskritik Tolli and the best ‘maadol’ player went to Navaratna. In the ‘Voili’ competition, Romailo Tawbhanga, Nij Gorpal and Navaratna teams got the first, second and third prizes respectively. The best singer prize went to Punam Karki of Romailo.
Botiamari Balika team got a consolation prize.
On the other hand in the ‘Sanginee’ competition, Botiamari got the first position, Jharnapani children’s team the second spot and Lakshman Garh women’s team got the third position. In the morning, the portrait of Nepali poet Lakshmi Prasad Devakota was garlanded by Abikeshar Sarmah and the lamp was lit by Loknath Upadhaya.
The open meeting and the prize distribution function presided over by Puja Sarmah, president, Shreemoyee Sahitya Gosthi were addressed by Sahitya Akademi member Jnan Bahadur Chetry, Ganga Dhakal, secretary, Assam Gorkha Sangha and veteran litterateur Hori Gojural. Tikaram Nirvik former president, Nepali Natya Sanmilan was felicitated in the meeting.
