Assam : Lakpa Lama nominated Community Leader Panelist with National Commission for Minorities

Guwahati :  Community Activist from Umrangso, Dima Hasao district in  Assam,  Lakpa Lama has been nominated Member of the Panel of Community Leaders of the National Commission of Minorities under the Ministry of Minorities Affairs (MoMA), Government of India.

Lakpa is a dedicated grass-root social worker who is the General Secretary Incharge of North East Zone of the national social organisation of the Gorkhas in India - the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP). Over the two decades he has been raising community concerns before the authorities and is actively involved with grassroot organisations while leading a pan India organisation.

Nicknamed 'Data Lama' for his in-depth knowledge on the subjects of community interest Lakpa is a believer of issues assertion is more important than the results of an election. He has driven Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh to begin documentation and publication wing in his last 20 years of association with the organisation. A philanthropic school teacher and a class researcher and  an excellent orator Lakpa is a resource person of the Gorkha community and an asset to the society. 

Congratulating Lakpa on his nomination as Community Leader to the National Minorities Commission group Nanda Kirati Dewan, General Secretary of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, Assam State Committee said, ' Lakpa Lama is an asset of the Gorkhas that Parisangh discovered. Over the last two decades he has been committed to the community's causes with significant contributions towards Identity, indigenous status, land and political rights.'

'I am sure, he has influenced several young community leaders like me. I congratulate him and look forward to working in granting ST status to the tribes of the Gorkha community along indigenous status. It's always enriching to have him as a colleague with us.' Dewan added.

44 years old Lakpa has been an active social worker for more than two decades now. Son of Late Ganesh Bahadur Lama and Late Shring Lama, he is a History graduate from Haflong Government College under Assam University, Silchar who runs a school in his village and is engaged in addressing community plights & conflicts,  mainstreaming tribals & backward classes and connecting them with the society.
