Nepali journalist Sharmila Pradhan’s book on women launched
Siliguri : An introductory book written by Nepali journalist Sharmila Pradhan on women of various fields residing in Sikkim and Darjeeling was today launched at Deokota Sangh in Siliguri.
The book, “Bibid Ayamma Hamra Nariharu” features introduction of 64 women from the two regions in the field of literature, sports, fashion, acting, singing and others. It was launched by Profession Dr. Kavita Lama of Sikkim University, Dramatist Indramani Darnal, Nepali litterateur Jas Yonzon Pyasi and Deokota Sangh president Sharada Chhetri Raimaji.
Dr Lama said being a journalist Sharmila has made a history in Nepali literature by publishing a books which is also an ode to the women extraordinaire in literature, science, sports, fashion and everything. Praising Sharmila, she said the book was the first journalistic writing written by any Nepali women in Siliguri.
Indramani Darnal said more Nepali women should come forward to write such books as it would be great gift to the society and Nepali literature.
Jas Yonzon Pyasi said in comparison to Darjeeling hills, Siliguri has grown ahead in organizing Nepali literary programmes. He said that in hills it has become difficult to work with the people to organize literary programmes.
According to Sharmila she will continue writing for the society if she gets support from the people.
